Dimitry Tsvetkov was the big surprise of the European Orienteering Championship 2008 in Ventspils – Latvia, winning 2 Gold medals. Very few knew much about this young Russian, although he had won the JWOC long distance in Estonia in 2003.
Dimitry was also surprised with those victories since he had not participated in international competitions for 3 years. In 2005 Tsvetkov participated the World Champs in Japan. About the 2005 Champs, Tsvetkov earlier this year told woO-TV “- It was right after my junior ages and I was not prepared for it. I was too weak.” This year a much stronger Tsvetkov came back, and showed the world that he really masters the Baltic terrain.
During the World Orienteering Championships in Czech Republic Tsvetkov won the silver medal in the relay, along with his teammates Andrey Khramov and Valentin Novikov.

Notice: We have only had a brief phone conversation with Dimitry Tsvetkov after the nomination for “The Orienteering Achievement of 2008″. We have not got full answers to the set of questions we prepared for the nominees, and therefore only a brief presentation of Tsvetkov is included here.
Dimitry Tsvetkov is nominated for winning the gold medal on the long distance and relay during the European Orienteering Championships in Latvia this year and winning the silver medal on the relay at the World Orienteering Championships in Czech Republic.
