The last major event of the elite’s season is knocking at the door! World’s best runners – all individual WOC medalists will be present – will meet this week-end in Zürich, Switzerland, and fight for the overall ranking of the World Cup. Ultimate Orienteering will of course be reporting from there and provide you in articles, pictures, interviews and even videos of the competitions. Stay tuned!
On the menu: plateau on Saturday, city center on Sunday
The athletes will compete on a middle distance tomorrow afternoon in Buch am Irchel, half way between Zürich and Winterthur. The terrain is described as being a plateau with a flat top, devoided of details, while the slopes are rocky and quite detailled, the whole allowing a mostly moderated runability. In contrary to Sunday’s final, no qualification is needed to take part in Saturday’s middle distance – 109 runners from 17 countries have registrated.
The Postfinance Sprint, very last stage of World Cup 2009, will be run Sunday afternoon in the in the center of the city of Zürich, guarantying thus a nice crowd of spectators… even so more that a big car-free event is taking place at the same moment, with a lot of attractions and more than 100 000 expected visitors.
Can Gueorgiou challenge Hubmann, big star of the year?
Just as in the past 2 years, the fight will be tight between Daniel Hubmann, leading by 25 points, and Thierry Gueorgiou. In the Women’s class and in the absence of injured Minna Kauppi, the victory should be played between Marianne Andersen, Helena Jansson and Simone Niggli. A nice spectacle coming ahead, which we will be delighted to inform you about.
